Cougars Place Second at Pasco Tournament

The Lady Cougars participated in a very competitive tournament this past weekend held at Pasco Hernando Community College against some nationally ranked NJCAA volleyball programs.

The CCC volleyball team opened up play against Saint Petersburg College with a three set sweep winning 25-;18; 25-19; 25-22. The second match of the day was against Monroe College of New York, and the Lady Cougars captured another victory against a scholarship program.

On the second day the Cougars came back to play a very talented Palm Beach State College, and won in three straight sets, placing the Cougars into the championship match against host Pasco Hernando Community College. PHCC, who is currently ranked in the top ten in the latest poll for NJCAA Division II teams, were also undefeated in their pool play. Although the championship match only went three sets in favor of Pasco, Coach Denny was still pleased with CCC’s overall performance. “Our team could not match up with such a strong front line of the Conquerors. Pasco is a very solid program and is well coached. In the end, we played well but could not capitalize on a few critical points during each of the sets”. The Cougars fell in three straight sets, 22-25 each time.

Clearwater finished the day with the runner up finish out of the eight team tournament. All tournament honors went to Elisabeth Ennis and Emma Kile. The Cougars are currently 16-4 and will return to the court at Florida Christian College on Thursday.
