Cougars Take Shutout Win Against Brewton Parker in OT

(9/3/10) An intense match against NAIA program Brewton Parker ended with a 1-0 overtime victory for the Cougars. The men created several good scoring opportunities but could not capitalize. A solid performance by the Clearwater defense led to an impressive shutout against the Barons.

Midway through the second half of the game, the Cougars had the best scoring chance of the night when Juan Robayo got in behind the Brewton defense but his one-on-one scoring opportunity was blocked by the Barons goalkeeper. After a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation, the game went to overtime. In the first overtime, a Cougar buildup from the midfield resulted in a corner kick for the Cougars. Lucas Hollenbach beat the goalkeeper with a header off of Robayo's kick and into the goal, sealing the win for the Cougars and sending Clearwater fans into relieved excitement.

When asked about the win, Clearwater Coach James Whitaker said “This was a great win to start the season. Brewton Parker is a quality team. We worked hard to earn the win, but we still have a lot of work to do to get our team to where we want to be.”

For the match, Clearwater outshot Brewton Parker College 6-4. Goalkeepers Garrett Hollenbach and Anthony DeRosse combined for the shutout win.
