Bruins Get Cougars Again

After a 9-day break, the Lady Cougars travelled to Greenville, SC for their rematch against the Bruins of Bob Jones University. In their earlier meeting, the Bruins came out on top 76-58, and the Cougars were looking for their first ever victory over Bob Jones.

The Lady Cougars put the first points of the game on the board as Tori Hale hit a jumper to make the score 2-0 Cougars. From there, the Bruins would score 10 unanswered and never relinquish the lead. Despite creating several open looks, the Lady Cougars could not find the hoop in the first half, shooting only 5-25 from the field. The Bruins, for their part were red hot in the first half as they shot 5-10 from three. As a result, the Cougars trailed 15-37 at the half.

In the second half, though, the Cougars would come alive. Hallie Linville opened the half with a three to start the Cougars on a 7-0 run. The Cougars would continue to chip away and cut the deficit to 8 with 3:17 remaining. However, the Bruins would continue to hold onto the lead. Then, with 1:30 remaining, Hallie Linville’s free throws cut the deficit to 6 at 54-60, but that would be as close as the score would get. The final score saw the Bruins claim a 67-56 victory over the Lady Cougars despite a 41-30 scoring advantage for the Cougars in the second half.

Hallie Linville led all scorers with 25 points and Tori Hale added 16.

The Lady Cougars return to action tomorrow against South Region opponent, Toccoa Falls College. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 PM.
