Cougars Win Season Opener


The Cougars 2013-14 season began at home against Welch College from Nashville. Clearwater got off to a fast start with a lay-up and a three point play from Junior transfer Mike Key. Followed by 2 more quick baskets by Tristan Shore and Devin Paularinne. The 9-0 start did not last as Welch came back with a 9-0 run of their own. The 9-7 score was as close as the Flames would get for the rest of the game. The half time score was 48-22 with 10 different Cougars scoring in the first half. The scoring outburst continued in the second half, with the end result being a 96-45 victory. Clearwater had balanced scoring, Tristan Shore led the way with 20 points, followed by Mike Key's 19. Freshman Gary Wintermeier scored 14 in his college debut. Freshman Eddie Moralobo had 9 assists in his first college outing. Erik McRae had 4 steals to go along with his 7 assists. Tristan was the leading rebounder with 12 followed by Sophomore Austin Swierenga with 8 and Senior Colin DeHate with 7.
