Saints Route Cougars 11-2, Sweep Series

Clearwater looked to take a win with them before hitting the road back to campus, but couldn't put anything together, as the Saints out hit the Cougars, winning 11-2 in the night cap.

In the top of the first, junior Jefte Velez, freshman Caleb Jordan, and freshman Jake Reidy hit three singles in a row to start the game, loading the bases. Velez scored on a passed ball, taking a 1-0 lead, and moving up Jordan and Reidy a base. The Cougars stranded both of them, after junior Joel Felten grounded out to third, junior Jon Rivera struck out, and then junior Noel Thomas grounded out to short, ending the threat.

It was nearly all Saints after that. They scored three runs in the first, three in the second, one in the third, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth.

First baseman Nick Kranick led Flagler's attack going 2-3, with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Designated hitter Tyler Vanover went 1-3 with 3 RBI's, and eight Saints starters plated runs. Right fielder Jay Laurienzo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.

Freshman Stephen Martin took the loss for Clearwater, throwing two innings, giving up seven hits, six earned runs, and three strikeouts. Freshman Wade Irwin threw three innings in relief, giving up five hits, two earned runs, and striking out one.

The only other Cougar run came when freshman Peter Liloia IV grounded into a fielders choice, knocking in Felten from third. Felten started off the inning with an infield single.

Flagler's starting pitcher Danny Brown earned the win, going five innings, giving up one earned run on six base hits, and striking out five.

Flagler improves to 6-2 on the year, and Clearwater falls to 0-7, after Flagler took game three of the series 11-2.

Clearwater will have their first home game next Friday night when they host Ave Maria University for the first of a three game series. The first pitch is scheduled for 7pm.

Notes: The Cougars were retired in order four times...Liloia picked up his first RBI of his career...Noel Thomas made his first appearance on the mound...seven of nine Cougars starters recorded base hits...Rivera and Reidy both extended their hitting streaks to four games.
