Cougars fall short in comeback bid.


The Cougars hosted Pasco Hernando Community College on Tuesday night in a rematch from an early December game. The first half saw the Cougars get down by 9 early, then comeback to take a 2 point led with 3 three pointers by three different players and two free throws. The 19-17 led was the only one for the Cougars in the first half. Over the next 8 minutes of the half Pasco went on a 6-26 run, and increased the deficit at the break to 19 with a 36-55 score.
The second half Clearwater stepped it up with great defensive pressure and their best offensive output of the season for a half. The gap in the score remained constant until a free throw by Devine Paularinne which brought the score to 63-79. The Cougars began to chip away and eventually brought it to with in 4 with a score of 91-95. Pasco made their free throws down the stretch and the Cougars came up short 93-100.
The Cougars had a balanced scoring attack with 6 players in double figures. The leading scorer was Brian Horrach with 19. Devin Paularinne had 18, Colin DeHate and Erik McRae each had 14, Austin Swierenga came off the bench to contribute 12, and Jonah Dew added 11. Jonah was tops with 13 rebounds followed by Colin DeHate with 10. Erik McRae had a season high 13 assists. The Cougars will go on the road this weekend to take on Trinity Baptist and Pensacola Christian.
