Cougars Take Third at Pasco Tournament

The Lady Cougars came back after an opening loss, to sweep the rest of their matches at the Pasco Hernado Tournament over the weekend and secured a third place finish. The Cougars faced a tough opponent in Grand Rapids Community College for the third place match. The Raiders were ranked #2 in the latest NJCAA II National poll with an 11-2 record barely missing the championship match after a tough loss earlier in the day against Pasco Herando who is currently ranked #4 in the national NJCAA poll.

The Cougars battled for every point early in the match, and this looked like another close one. Clearwater was able to take sets one and two which helped in the momentum of the match. During the third and final set, the CCC team got an early lead which helped secure the final victory. Coach Denny was thrilled with such a solid win against such a good program. "I think we played our best ball of the weekend in this match. Amanda Bucklin came up big for us with 4.7 kills per set at 41%. Kile added another 4.7 kills at 28% and Richelle Bucklin had 3.3 kills per set at 38%. Richelle added another 14 digs while Ponce dominated the back row with a total of 20 digs."

The Cougars are now 14-1 and will take on rival Florida College at home, Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
