Cougars Stuggle To Finish, Drop Region Match

(9/17/11) Clearwater Christian College lost a tough region match 1-0 to Point University. The Cougars controlled the run of play and created numerous chances to score but were unable to break through and finish. CCC led 19-6 in shots but struggled in the final 3rd. The Cougars played without defenders Matt Tewes and Matt Wells who were out with foot injuries.

Matias Domingo scored for Point in the 61st minute when the ball fell to his feet inside the 18 and he blasted the ball past goalkeeper Anthony DeRosse. The Cougars pushed hard to get the equalizer but were unable to break through.

Coach Whitaker commented after the match, "It was a difficult loss for us because I really thought our team played well tonight, but that's just soccer sometimes. We created a lot of quality chances but really struggled to finish. This team is really coming along but we've got to be better in the final 3rd. I was really pleased with our midfield and defense tonight. With Tewes and Wells out of the lineup, we started 3 freshmen in our back four, and they continue to step up and play well."

The Cougars travel to Eckerd College (NCAA II) on Tuesday, September 20 to face the Tritons.
