Cougars Come Up Short Against Saint Leo


(9/3/11) Clearwater Christian College lost to Saint Leo University (NCAA-II) 4-1 in men's soccer action Saturday night in Saint Leo, Florida. The Cougars battled the Lions tough for the first 76 minutes before giving up 3 goals over an 8 minutes span.

The Lions struck first in the 22nd minute on a Jesper Otterstedt goal. Drew Custer answered for the Cougars, tying the match with 33 minutes left off an assist from Seth Dempsey. With 14 minutes left in the match, Aaron Gendreau scored two goals within a minute of each other to put the game out of reach for Clearwater.

Anthony DeRosse played well in net for the Cougars, making 17 saves to keep the Cougars in the match.

After the match, Coach Whitaker commented, "I was really proud of the way our players battled against a very talented team. We were 14 minutes away from an outstanding result. I'm excited about the way our young team continues to progress."

The Cougars travel to the Atlanta area for matches against Talladega College (NAIA) and Emmanuel College (NAIA) on September 9-10.
