Women's Soccer Tops Ave Maria University

The women's soccer team played their first home game of the season on Friday night against Ave Maria University. It proved to be an excellent test for the Lady Cougars as the game went back and forth for 90 minutes. Senior Katie Mills took advantage of a defensive mistake by Ave Maria and calmly slotted the ball past their goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. The Lady Cougars defense played a solid 90 minutes and was able to limit Ave Maria's scoring opportunities. Ahna Boley made six saves in goal to earn her first shutout of the 2011 season. Coach Bates was pleased with the effort that the girls put forth during the game, and was excited to earn a shutout against a quality opponent.

The Lady Cougars play their next two games on the road as they travel to Tennessee Temple University and Huntington College for two games next week.
