Kellogg Defends Dissertation

Associate professor of mathematics Matt Kellogg has successfully defended his doctoral dissertation! In a culmination of years of study and preparation, the topic of his paper was the enhancement of pre-service elementary teacher’s pedagogical content knowledge by focusing on student misconceptions and exploring topics with web-based microworlds. Dr. Kellogg began his educational journey towards his doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction in Mathematics at the University of South Florida in 2003. “There is no doubt that the coursework and research for my dissertation has broadened and strengthened my knowledge of pedagogy, curriculum, and mathematics instruction. I feel very prepared to assist our pre-service teachers in their preparation to teach mathematics.”

Above all, Dr. Kellogg praises God for helping him complete his seven-year journey. “Reflecting back, it is very evident that God’s timing is perfect, God’s grace is all-sufficient, and man’s wisdom is foolishness before God. God blessed me with a strong, patient, and wonderful wife, whose love and support was needed and so appreciated. To my seven year old daughter, “Yes, Madison, Daddy can finally play!”

Dr. Mary Draper, vice president for academic affairs said, “Matt Kellogg has successfully completed a study for his dissertation that will add to the body of knowledge for future teachers in both secondary and elementary math. We are very proud of the work that he has done, and his successful completion of this timely project. Congratulations!”

Congratulations, Dr. Kellogg! We look forward to how God will use this degree for the furtherance of His work at Clearwater Christian College.
