Report from Nationals


The Cougars returned from the 2013 National Championship tournaments victorious in many ways. The volleyball tournament was held November 13-16 and was hosted by Lincoln Christian University in Illinois. The soccer tournament was held November 14-16 at the Austin Tindall Regional Park in Kissimmee, FL.

As reported earlier, the Volleyball team won their 8th consecutive national championship by defeating Ozark Christian College in the final game. This is the Cougarís 13th national championship title since 1995. Coach Denny also posted her 961st victory bringing her closer to the coveted 1000th win obtained only by a handful of coaches in college volleyball. The volleyball team finished their 2013 season with an overall record of 34-16.

In womenís soccer, our Cougars entered the tournament as the #2 seed and proceeded immediately to defeat #6 seed Cairn University 3-0 and #3 seed Maranatha Baptist Bible College 4-0 in their opening matches. The championship game came down to Clearwater Christian facing south region opponent and #4 seed Bob Jones University in the final match. In a hard fought contest, BJU won 1-0 securing their first-ever national championship. Clearwater Christian College finished the NCCAA DII tournament in 2nd place. The womenís soccer team finished their season with an overall record of 12-7-3.

In menís soccer, our Cougars entered the tournament as the #7 seed and lost their first match 0-3 to # 2 seed Providence University College. This defeat moved the Cougars to the consolation bracket but not out of significant tournament play. In this bracket, the Cougars tied # 6 Seed Ohio Christian University 1-1 but later won the contest 6-5 in penalty kicks. In their final match on Saturday, the Cougars defeated #8 seed Dallas Christian University 3-1 to secure 5th place in the nation. The menís soccer team finished their season with an overall record of 7-11-2.
