Star Chapter Recognition

Emily Barker
Clearwater Christian College received recognition as one of the Star Chapters of the Alpha Chi Honor Society for the 2012-2013 academic year. Alpha Chi (AX) is a coeducational academic honor society that has been in existence since 1922. Its purpose has been to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve such distinction. Presently, there are about 300 individual chapters in nearly every state of the union and Puerto Rico, inducting nearly 12,000 new members annually. Star Chapter recognitions are made to those whose chapter actively encourages academic achievement within their institution and among their fellow members by meeting minimum participation requirements which includes sending sponsors and student delegates to the annual convention, members making presentations at annual conventions, hosting at least one scholarly or academic program on their campus, and encouraging members to apply for society’s scholarship programs.

In regard to this accomplishment, 2012 CCC Theta Chapter President Emily Barker said "It has been an honor and joy to be a part of such a successful chapter this past year. To see my peers use their scholastic success in a variety of avenues (i.e. national convention presentations, academic scholarships, and school wide academic tutoring) is a huge encouragement! Academic success shouldn't be stagnant, and CCC's Florida Theta Chapter has proven that we are willing to use our God-given talents in a variety of venues."

Clearwater Christian College was one of 40 institutions recognized as Star Chapters for 2012-2013. The remaining 2012-13 officers contributing to this recognition include Vice President Michelle Weber, Secretary Kara Lundquist, and Chaplain Bothvill Valcin.
