Andrews Recognized With Mattice Award

Clearwater Christian College presented to Mrs. Dawn Andrews of Belleview, FL, the first annual Howard Mattice Memorial Impact Award for outstanding service to her students. A teacher at Ocala Christian Academy in Ocala, FL, Mrs. Andrews was nominated by incoming CCC freshman and global nursing major Harlee Campbell.

The purpose of the Howard Mattice Memorial Impact Award is to help incoming students recognize teachers who have helped them get where they are in their educational journey and to remember the legacy of Dr. Howard Mattice, a former CCC professor who exemplified this during his tenure at the college. Entering students are invited to nominate a teacher that had the greatest impact on them academically, socially, or spiritually in high school. From the list of nominees, the College selects one individual to be recognized.

Dr. Mattice lived a life that touched his students both in and out of the classroom. He said, “My heart’s desire is to see my students mature spiritually, intellectually, and socially. I want them to become beacons for Christ in this present spiritually darkened world. Teaching at CCC has fulfilled my dream of being a member of a community of Christian scholars and students whose common purpose is to serve our God. My passion for teaching stems from the joy of observing students increase in faith and knowledge as they prepare for their chosen life’s work.”

Mrs. Andrews, a 1996 CCC mathematics alumna, teaches mathematics and sign language at OCA. As an alumna, Mrs. Andrews is a past student of Dr. Mattice and continues his legacy of making an impact upon the next generation. The student nominator, Harlee Campbell, said, “Mrs. Andrews is an amazing woman who always puts her students first; she never expects anything in return. If I ever needed anything, whether it was advice or something more tangible, Mrs. Andrews would always be there to lend me a helping hand. She would sit me down and take me to Scriptures in the Bible and showed me how to handle the problem. Mrs. Andrews attended CCC and was one of the reasons why I decided to attend. She is the best teacher I have ever had. I believe her to be everything a Christian teacher should be.” After a brief presentation by Mr. Anthony Wilson, dean of admissions, Miss Campbell awarded Mrs. Andrews a commemorative plaque.
