Editor's Choice Selects Burggraff Piece

Nathan Burggraff's Praise to the Lord recently received J. W. Pepper's Editor's Choice (EC) recognition with a score of 25.5 out of 30. Each year, the Pepper editorial team hand selects new sacred choir music for the Editor’s Choice distinction so choral directors can easily preview new choral works designed to enhance worship services. With literally thousands of new choral works published each year, this recognition serves to distinguish the “top of the crop.”

Praise to the Lord is published by Soundforth in Greenville, SC, and was orchestrated by former CCC faculty member, Dr. Rick Nichols. This was Nathan's first piece published by an outside company. Pepper’s EC tribute demonstrates a high standard of excellence in his work. In addition, this selection was commissioned in honor of Mr. Clem Boatright, the first choral director at Clearwater Christian College, and was first performed by the 2011 Alumni Choir at the annual CCC Founders’ Banquet held on March 5, 2011.

Nathan is a 2005 graduate of Clearwater Christian College and holds the B.A. in Music. He studied composition with CCC Professor of Music, Dr. Craig John Ralston. After Clearwater, Nathan continued on to The Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where he earned his master's in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music in 2007, a master’s in Music Theory Pedagogy in 2009, and is currently working toward his Ph.D. in Music Theory. In the past four summers, Nathan has also ministered through sacred piano concerts to over sixty churches in the United States and Canada, using a unique presentation that displays the hymn lyrics and associated Scripture synchronized with the arrangements.
