Cougars Hold Soccer Clinic

On Saturday, March 26, the Clearwater men’s soccer team conducted a soccer clinic in Pinellas Park for the CCSP Youth Soccer League. The league is directed by Luis Hernandez, assistant coach for the Cougar men’s soccer team. Around 100 children, ages 3-16, were divided into four different groups based upon their age. Cougar players were able to connect with the kids, teaching them the fundamentals of soccer through a series of activities including fun drills, ladder tournaments, and finishing with a “Coaches vs. Kids” soccer match. The players and coaches were also able to share the Gospel with all of the children and parents in attendance using the J316 soccer ball.

Cougar player, Mac Hildebrand, enjoyed his time with the CCSP Youth Soccer League. “Helping with soccer clinics with the local church has been a consistent way for our team to have a ministry with our sport,” he said.

“Every time we get the chance to be involved and meet kids, we are not only doing what we love, but also getting the chance to share the gospel in a big and yet still personal way. We are excited about lasting fruit coming from this ministry every time we connect with kids through soccer.”

Coach Whitaker said this about this opportunity: “I love to see our guys using soccer as a tool to minister and share the Gospel with others. The clinic was similar to what we did on our Guatemala mission trip this past summer. Ministry is an important element of the mission of our soccer team and we want to take advantage of every opportunity that God gives us in this area.”
