If we want to see mighty wonders of divine power and grace wrought in the place of weakness, failure and disappointment, let us answer God's standing challenge, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not!'" J. Hudson Taylor On October 21, 2009, the entire student body, faculty, and staff of Clearwater Christian College will observe a Day of Prayer. The Day of Prayer is a special opportunity to set aside classes, work, ball games, studying, and other "momentary pursuits," in an exchange for the "heavenly pursuit" of seeking God's face on specific matters in our individual lives and on behalf of the College. It is a chance to get away from the mundane and seek spiritual direction for our lives, school, and country. The uncertainty of the economy and the general state of our society demand fervent prayer from the children of God. As James 5:16 states, "A fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." It is the collective desire of faculty, staff, and students of CCC that God would hear the prayers of the righteous and work on our behalf. This year, there will be several periods of individual and group prayer sessions, three chapel services centered on issues of prayer, and a guest speaker. The 2009 Day of Prayer will feature messages by Dr. Dave Jaspers, Staff Evangelist and Annex Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Schaumburg, Illinois. His first message, entitled "The Power of Being Real," will be followed by an in-depth look at prayer through his message entitled, "Christ's Instructions on Prayer." Both messages will be taken from Matthew 6:1-8. Dr. Jaspers said, "[These] verses [argue] for the importance of genuineness in our walk with the Lord, including our prayer life. In fact, the section strongly argues for the fact that we are constantly in peril of doing Christian deeds (including our prayer life) just to be seen of men. The second message will zero in on Jesus' specific instructions regarding prayer using the Lord's Prayer as an example. In the model of the Lord's Prayer he teaches the balance between seeking to glorify God and to express our needs to God."Please join us in prayer for our nation and economy, our personal pursuit of spiritual and academic excellence, our pursuit of transforming our lives by the Word of God, our faculty, staff, and students, and the future endeavors of Clearwater Christian College. Community churches and individuals are invited to attend the CCC Day of Prayer services. "Day of Prayer is like an island in the middle of a stark desert of school. It is so awesome for the administration to give us a day to devote to prayer, personal and group devotions. It really causes us, as students to stop, pray, and gain from the strength and peace that prayer can give. Every year, after the Day of Prayer, I feel rejuvenated and revived, ready to face the upcoming obstacles. Throughout my daily schedule, that is anything but calm, the Day of Prayer gave me a day to pause and reflect on my walk with the Lord. From the speakers to the prayer groups, the Lord used the Day of Prayer to impact my life in such a mighty way! I am so thankful for the blessing that this day has given to each student that attends Clearwater Christian College!" Joshua Quinn, Senior |
