CCC Will Observe a Campus-Wide Day of Prayer

“Throughout our history in times of testing, Americans have come together in prayer to heal and ask for strength for the tasks ahead, ... I ask that we pray - as Americans have always prayed in times of trial - with confidence in His purpose, with hope for a brighter future, and with the humility to ask God to keep us strong so that we can better serve our brothers and sisters in need.”
President George W. Bush

On October 15, 2008, the entire student body, faculty, and staff of Clearwater Christian College will observe a Day of Prayer. The Day of Prayer is a special opportunity to set aside classes, work, ball games, studying, and other “momentary pursuits,” in an exchange for the “heavenly pursuit” of seeking God’s face on specific matters in our individual lives and on behalf of the College. It is a chance to get away from the mundane and seek spiritual direction for our lives, school, and country.

The uncertainty of the economy, the upcoming presidential election, and the general state of our society demand fervent prayer from the children of God. As James 5:16 states, “A fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” It is the collective desire of faculty, staff, and students of CCC that God would hear the prayers of the righteous and work on our behalf.

This year, there will be several periods of individual and group prayer sessions, three chapel services centered on issues of prayer, and a guest speaker. Dr. Andy Naseli, full-time Ph.D. student and research assistant of Dr. D. A. Carson, will challenge CCC students, faculty, and staff to pray without ceasing by a sermon-journey through Paul’s teaching in Colossians. When asked about his sermons on the Day of Prayer, Dr. Naseli said, “My goal will be to help those present better understand Paul's prayer in Colossians 1:9-14 and then challenge them to pray that same prayer regularly for other Christians.” Dr. Naseli is the administrator of Themelios, “an international evangelical theological journal that expounds and defends the historic Christian faith” as a ministry of the Gospel Coalition.

The CCC Day of Prayer does not have to be limited to students and staff on campus, but can extend into the surrounding communities through the efforts of family and friends of the CCC body. Please join us in prayer for our nation and economy, our personal pursuit of spiritual and academic excellence, our pledge to boast in the Cross of Christ alone, our faculty, staff, and students, and the future endeavors of Clearwater Christian College.

"For me, the day of prayer is a day that doesn’t really come often enough. I am convicted every time because many times I find that these days are the only times, for long periods of time, that I spend the day or even part of the day in prayer. But it is so refreshing. To be able to sit alone, with a friend, or a group, share burdens and requests and then talk to our Lord is an awesome privilege that we take for granted. It is during these days that God seems to show me the things that I need to be working on and it is during these days that I feel as though I grow closer to Him. I think it is also amazing the the administration of our school finds it so important that we do this twice a year. They show us that they place our, as well as their, walks with God above all else- including class."
Megan Creech, Senior

"Day of Prayer is like an island in the middle of a stark desert of school. It is so awesome for the administration to give us a day to devote to prayer, personal and group devotions. It really causes us, as students to stop, pray, and gain from the strength and peace that prayer can give. Every year, after the Day of Prayer, I feel rejuvenated and revived, ready to face the upcoming obstacles. Throughout my daily schedule, that is anything but calm, the Day of Prayer gave me a day to pause and reflect on my walk with the Lord. From the speakers to the prayer groups, the Lord used the Day of Prayer to impact my life in such a mighty way! I am so thankful for the blessing that this day has given to each student that attends Clearwater Christian College!"
