Ireland Study Tour News Update

Forty-four CCC students and faculty members traveled to Ireland during their March 2007 spring break for an eight-day study tour of the island.

English Professor Catherine Anthony met with the travelers three times before the trip, preparing them for their Irish adventure. The group met an additional three times before the end of the semester to wrap up the study of Irish writers and their country.

The group, led by Irish tour guide Alistair, began their study on Saturday morning with a walking tour of Dublin. They visited Trinity College of Dublin and the Abbey Theater for a performance of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. A visit to the Martello Tower, former home of writer James Joyce, and the Hill of Tara, once the political center of Celtic Ireland, made up another day’s itinerary.

The group also visited an all girls school at Kylemore Abbey, dressed in green for a St. Patrick’s Day parade, visited the Church of St. Nicholas, and traveled to the Cliffs of Mohera, “possibly the most beautiful sight that one could ever see,” said student Shannon Markovitch.
