Senior ESS Majors Present Research Studies
As one of Clearwater Christian College’s most popular majors, the bachelors’ of science in Exercise and Sport Science requires students to complete a number of different hands-on experiments during their four-year course of study. The capstone of this pursuit is a Senior Seminar research study requirement that is presented by the students at the end of their final semester. These students are required to design a research study, collect data, analyze the data, discuss their findings, and give an oral presentation from their final report.
Vickie Denny, professor and Chair of the Department of Exercise & Sport Science said, “It is a pleasure to work with our senior ESS majors as they conduct research in an area of their interest. The goal of this class is to provide each student the experience of reading the research literature, designing an actual research study, and then conducting the study. The final product is a written paper along with an oral presentation. This type of academic activity will be necessary for our students who go on to graduate school; therefore, we believe it is an important requirement to prepare them for further study.”
The Exercise and Sport Science major is a well-rounded program that incorporates the classroom, the weight room, the ESS lab, the gymnasium, and the athletic fields to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to serve God effectively within their chosen field. Graduates from this program are qualified to use their training in a number of different ministerial, vocational, professional, and personal pursuits including personal training, physical therapy, nutritional counseling, and sports management.
Presenting ESS Majors included:
Matt Kinkade
—The Accuracy of Self-Reporting in an Outpatient Physical Therapy Setting
Matt Armstrong
—Motivating Fans to Attend Major League Baseball Games
David Henry
—The Effects of High vs. Low Volume Resistance Training On Muscular Strength and Hypertrophy
