Students Receive Alpha Chi Academic Recognitions
On March 22-24, 450 students and their sponsors convened in Baltimore, MD, for the annual convention of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society. These students came from diverse colleges and universities in eight regions of the eastern United States and as far west as Texas. The Alpha Chi National Honor Society admits students from the top 10 percent of juniors, seniors, and graduate students in all academic divisions. CCC chapter members strive to uphold the society’s pledge to academic excellence and scholarship in their own educational pursuits while offering tutoring services to fellow students.
Alicia Feliz
Lauren Johnson
Clearwater Christian College was represented by Alicia Feliz and Lauren Johnson, both seniors and members of the CCC chapter of Alpha Chi. During the conference, student presenters read papers in sessions of five papers each and both Miss Feliz and Miss Johnson participated. Miss Feliz read a paper entitled “Wonderland: Lucid Dreaming and its Application” and Miss Johnson read “Dangerous Misperceptions,” a study about human trafficking. All presentations were judged for focus, organization of the presenter, depth and complexity of treatment, use of research materials, engagement with the audience, and contribution to scholarship in the field. Of the fifteen presenters who read in the anthropology section, Alicia Feliz was judged the best presentation, for which she received a cash award.
Mrs. Catherine Anthony, associate professor of English literature and faculty sponsor of the CCC Alpha Chi chapter, also attended the convention. She was very pleased with both student presentations and looks forward to attending future conferences.
