Students Become Big Brothers and Big Sisters
In conjunction with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, several Clearwater Christian College students have decided to participate to help area children who need extra encouragement to face the challenges of life. Ryan Dupee, staff sponsor of the new group, looks forward to seeing the blessings that arise out of this initiative. “Big Brothers Big Sisters is an opportunity to make an impact in the community while ministering to young children seeking relationships. We had hoped for 20 initial interested students; 28 CCC students attended the first meeting. It was very encouraging.”
According to their Facebook page, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay is a donor supported volunteer driven organization. They are the oldest, largest, and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States, leading with the highest number of one-to-one youth service for more than a century. The national Big Brothers Big Sisters organization mentors children, ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country.
While it is not a requirement for her major, but an exciting opportunity to make a difference, sophomore communication arts major, Kyrene Resel, said, “I love being with kids and having random adventures, so I figured why not spend some of my time trying to make a difference in someone’s life? I wish more CCC students would become big brothers or sisters. It is a great way to get involved in a child’s life and maybe help a child turn her life around and make better decisions.”
