Volleyball Season Review
(2009-2010)

The Lady Cougars recorded their best season ever during the 2009-2010 season, capturing a record number of 45 wins with only 4 losses. As the winner of the NCCAA II National Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, the CCC women's volleyball team is thankful for the season the Lord granted them.

Coach Vickie Denny said that the season's goal was "to glorify God in whatever we did, but especially when we played volleyball." The 2009-2010 theme of "Excellence is Intentional; Excellence in Everything; and Excellence for God's Glory" came from Colossians 3:23, "whatever you do, do it heartily as unto the Lord and not unto man."

The 2009-2010 season was phenomenal. Coach Denny would like to acknowledge her four seniors for their outstanding example and leadership over the past four years. "These young ladies had a career record of 167 wins with only 29 losses. That is a winning percentage of 85% with an average of over 40 wins per season which is incredible, but what I appreciate most about all four of them is their love for God and desire to please Him. Alyssa Hallice, Ashley Lawson, Christine Sugimoto and Rebekah Monhollen have exemplified what being a "Lady Cougar" is all about and each will be greatly missed." All four seniors contributed significantly to the success of our team. They not only contributed on the court, but they provided great spiritual leadership as well." Chrissie and Alyssa also received AVCA and NCCAA All-American honors along with sophomore Emma Kile and freshmen, Richelle Bucklin. Chrissie was also a Scholar Athlete along with juniors, Danielle Heffernan and Kayla Whitely.

According to Coach Denny, the yearly accomplishments were: recording the most wins in a season with 45, winning the NCCAA South Regional Championship for the 17th time, the NCCAA II National Tournament for the fourth time in a row, and earning a total of nine National titles. Among other significant events for the year, the CCC Lady Cougars beat several nationally ranked top 20 NJCAA programs and won their own Labor Day Tournament and were champions at the Hillsborough Community College Tournament, beating the nationally ranked home team in the championship match.

"This past year's team was probably one of our best teams ever here at CCC. We recorded the most season wins and won Nationals for a record fourth time in a row. In the classroom, the team excelled with a team G.P.A. of 3.5-the highest since I have been here. The team worked hard and achieved much. What I especially enjoyed was the unity and spiritual focus of our team. Our seniors provided great leadership, and everyone wanted to use their volleyball abilities to please the Lord. It was a great winning combination." --Coach Denny

Cougar Spotlight

Playing volleyball for CCC has helped mold me athletically and spiritually. Coach helped me see my full potential by instilling in me the drive to be a better person. Being pushed beyond my limits helped me see that God is my rock and my strength, not anyone else or myself.
