Cougars Finish With Win; Take First Place in Tournament

The Lady Cougars finished with a solid victory over Trinity College of Florida to win their Invitational Tournament on Saturday. The Cougars needed a three set win to secure a three way tie for the tournament top spot. CCC came out strong against Trinity, who was ranked 5th in the latest NCCAA II poll and never looked back. Coach Denny was able to clear her bench and saw strong play by several freshmen including Amanda Bucklin, Kim Ponce, Dana Medich and Taylor Gordon.

After the match, the Lady Cougars had to wait to see how the last match against St. Thomas and Berry College played out. Eventually CCC was named tournament champions after a three way tie with Point Park, St. Thomas, and CCC was decided by winning game percentage. The Cougars have never won their competitive invitational tournament, so there was much to celebrate. For the second week in a row, junior middle hitter Emma Kile and senior setter, Liz Ennis were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Clearwater will continue some tough competition during the next two weeks to help prepare them for their NCCAA regional tournament to be held at the end of the month in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. Currently the Cougars are 26-6.
