Cougars Earn Solid Win Against Ohio Christian

(10/8/10) Clearwater Christian College defeated Ohio Christian University in a matchup of nationally ranked teams and a rematch of the 2009 NCCAA national semifinal match. Tyler Spraul had an outstanding match, leading the Cougars to the win with a hat trick.

Clearwater came out intent to score in the first half. Despite creating a number of good chances, the Trailblazer defense held strong as the match went to the half scoreless. In the 66th minute, a nice buildup and combination between Matt Wells and Justin Fuller led to a Drew Custer goal from close in to put the Cougars up 1-0. Minutes later, Spraul scored off a rebound of a shot from Carl Lassegue to put the Cougars in command. Spraul would tally 2 more times with a penalty kick and later a nifty finish off a quality assist from Daniel Mauro.

Clearwater came into the match ranked #1 in the most recent NCCAA coaches poll with Ohio ranked #9. Clearwater outshot the Trailblazers 16-3 in the match. Spraul leads the Cougars with 11 goals on the season. With the win, the Cougars improve to 10-2 on the season and will face a strong NAIA opponent in Montreat College (NC) on Friday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Glen Oaks Park.
