Cougars Fight Hard In 2-1 Loss
(10/5/10) The women's soccer team played host to the Florida College Falcons Tuesday, and were looking to avenge a 1-0 loss from earlier this season. The Falcons are a quality team that is well coached, and an excellent opponent for the Cougars.
Florida College opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a very well placed shot past Clearwater's goalkeeper. They continued to put pressure on the Cougar goal throughout the first half but were unable to find the back of the net again. As the first half progressed, Clearwater was able to put a few passes together and change the flow of the game, eventually earning a free kick in the Falcons defensive third. Whitney Redemann put the direct kick past the Florida College goalkeeper to tie the game.
The Cougars played much better in the second half, but gave up a free kick that the Falcons capitalized on in the 61st minute, giving them the 2-1 lead. Clearwater pushed hard for the equalizer and created several good scoring opportunities, even hitting the crossbar once, but were unable to score. The Cougars travel to Georgia for two non-conference games this weekend.
