Cougars Dominate TFC in 5-0 Win

(10/1/10) Clearwater Christian College dismantled region opponent Toccoa Falls College 5-0 in men's soccer action Friday night. The Cougars were relentless in their attack, creating numerous chances to score off combinations and crosses. Tyler Spraul, team captain for the Cougars, opened the scoring ten minutes into the match with a brilliant free kick goal from 30 yards out. Drew Custer would follow that up midway through the first half with a goal that put the Cougars up 2-0 at the half.

Clearwater came out determined to start the 2nd half and were rewarded when Paul Vanaman finished from inside the box to put the Cougars up 3-0 less than 2 minutes in. Brian Waddle later scored off a nice assist from Nick Gilmore, and Walter Scharf closed the scoring following a nifty exchange from freshmen Daniel Hildebrand and Stephen McMahon.

Coach Whitaker commented about the win: "This was a very workman-like win for us against an underrated team. We were good in all 3 phases of the game tonight. Our defense again played very solid, our midfield dominated the match, and we did a great job of creating and finishing opportunities in the final third."

With the win, CCC improves to 6-2 on the season and 3-0 in region play. The Cougar defense also earned its 6th shutout on the season. Clearwater is currently ranked #1 in the country in the most recent NCCAA D2 coaches poll and will face Atlanta Christian College on Saturday at 4:30pm.
