Men's Soccer Season Schedule Announced for 2010

(5/12/10) The Clearwater Christian College men's soccer team, the defending NCCAA D-II National Champions, will face a challenging 18 match schedule in 2010. The schedule is perhaps the most difficult schedule the Cougars have ever faced and includes 2 matches against NCAA D-II programs and 8 matches against NAIA teams to go along with 6 NCCAA South Region matches.

The Cougars lost only four seniors off a squad which won the NCCAA South Region Championship for the first time since 2003 and the first National Championship in school history. Overall, CCC was 15-2-4 in 2010.

Clearwater opens the season with an exhibition match against St. Thomas University and then opens the regular season at home against Brewton Parker on September 3. The Cougar schedule is highlighted by a home match against rival Southeastern University on September 16, a rematch of the 2009 national championship game. The Cougars will also face Ohio Christian University on October 8 in Atlanta, a rematch of the national tournament semifinal match from last year. Clearwater will also play 6 matches against NCCAA South Region opponents Atlanta Christian College, Toccoa Falls College, and Piedmont Baptist College.

Coach James Whitaker had this to say about the 2010 schedule: “We are looking forward to the challenge of playing what will likely be the most difficult schedule we have ever played. We’re hoping this schedule will prepare us for the post-season as we hope to defend our national championship.”
