ACC Ends Cougars Run to Championship

(2/27/10) Clearwater, FL- Atlanta Christian College defeated Clearwater Christian College 68-47 to win the NCCAA D2 South Region Championship in Clearwater, Florida. This was the second year in a row that the Chargers defeated the Cougars for the title. Clearwater had defeated Atlanta the previous week but couldn't get it going on the offensive end against the Chargers. With the win, the Chargers will advance to the NCCAA National Tournament in Philadelphia in 2 weeks.

The Cougars came out strong in the first half and built a slim lead before the Chargers closed the half with a 12-0 run to go into the half up 33-24. From there, Atlanta continued to build on their lead going up by over 20 points before the Cougars made a run to get the lead back to 10. The Chargers proved to be too tough inside, outrebounding the Cougars 40-27 including a 21-10 edge on the offensive glass.

Amanda Ison led the Cougars with 14 points and 6 rebounds, and Richelle Bucklin added 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 blocks. The Cougars finish the season with a record of 10-14, and with no graduating seniors, the future looks bright for the Lady Cougars for next season.
