Cougars Defeat Fire, Advance to Regional Championship

(2/26/10) Clearwater, FL- The Clearwater Christian College women's basketball team defeated Southeastern University 47-44 in the semifinal game of the NCCAA D2 South Region Women's Basketball Tournament. With the win, the Cougars advance to the Regional Championship game against Atlanta Christian College at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Cougars began the game strong and built a 10 point lead early in the game, but the Fire fought back to take the lead at 24-23 going into half-time. The second half was back and forth with both teams trading leads throughout. With the score tied with under a minute to play, Amanda Ison scored on a layup to put the Cougars up by 2. After a Southeastern miss, Katie Mullens made 1 of 2 free throws to put the Cougars up by 3. Southeastern had 1 last chance to tie the game but their long-distance try from 3 fell short and the Cougars celebrated the win.

Amanda Ison led the Cougars with 18 points and 7 rebounds while Richelle Buckin added 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 blocked shots. The Cougars also had several players named to the All Region Teams. Katie Mullens and Richelle Bucklin were named 1st Team All-Region, and Amanda Ison was named 2nd Team All-Region for the Cougars.
