Cougars Win Against SEBC to Advance to Regional Semifinal

(2/25/10) Kissimmee, FL- Clearwater Christian College defeated Southeastern Bible College in the quarterfinal game of the NCCAA South Region basketball tournament in Kissimmee, Florida. The #4 seeded Sabers and the #5 seeded Cougars had split their regular season matchups with each game decided by 3 points.

The Cougars came out strong in the opening half, built an 18 point lead, and were able to keep their running game going by making several big 3 point shots to race out to a 46-28 half-time score. The Cougars extended the lead to 24 points in the second half before Southeastern Bible made a run to close the lead to 10 points. Clearwater responded with a run to put the game out of reach and prevailed by a final score of 88-72.

Clearwater dominated the paint, outrebounding SEBC by a final margin of 55-33 including 18 offensive rebounds. The Cougars had balanced scoring with 5 players in double figures led by Todd Wahlberg with 20, Troy Hadlock 16, Bryan Spears 14, Lonzo Saunders 11, and Matt Wells 10. Spears and Saunders also led the Cougars in rebounding with 9 rebounds each, and Bryan Copeland dished out 6 assists.

With the win, Clearwater advances to the regional semifinal game against Southeastern University at 6 p.m. on Friday night at the Kissimmee Civic Center.
