Cougars Come Up With Huge Upset Over ACC


(2/20/10) Atlanta, GA - The Clearwater Christian College women's basketball team defeated Atlanta Christian College 59-57 in their final regular season game of the season. Atlanta came in as the #1 team in the region and the #6 team in the nation. The Cougars had narrowly lost to the Chargers earlier in the season and were focused on upsetting ACC on the road and earning the #3 seed in the upcoming South Region tournament.

The Cougars came out with great intensity to start the game, leading for most of the first half before going into the half tied at 30. Clearwater came out of the half-time building a 12 point lead and leading the entire way. With CCC in control at 49-37, ACC fought back strong over the final 10 minutes, but Clearwater hung on to win 59-57.

Cougar team captain Kelly Fitchner played her best game of the year, placing the Cougars in the first half with a couple of huge 3's and several big steals. With the win, the Cougars secured the #3 seed in the upcoming South Region Tournament. CCC will host the tournament and will play against Southeastern University at 8 p.m. on Friday night.
