Cougars Come From Behind to Defeat Pensacola

(2/15/10) Pensacola, FL- The Clearwater Christian College women's basketball team won a hard-fought 62-59 victory over NCCAA rival Pensacola Christian College. The Cougars had defeated the Eagles 76-55 at home earlier this season, but PCC came out determined to give the Cougars a tough game.

Clearwater started out slow, trailing 14-4 in the early part of the game but got it going with some good shooting and tied the game at 17. The game continued to be tight the rest of the way as both teams played tough defense. PCC led at the half 33-30.

The game stayed close to start the second half. With less than 8 minutes left in the game and Clearwater trailing by a couple of points, the Cougars got a number of crucial stops on defense, creating turnovers which led to 3 fast breaks and easy points on the other end. With this run, Clearwater surged into the lead at 58-54 with about 3 minutes remaining.

Freshman Richelle Bucklin hit a couple of key free throws late to put CCC up 62-59. Pensacola had 1 last opportunity to tie the game but their shot was blocked to preserve the victory for the Cougars.

For the 2nd game in a row, Clearwater had 4 players in double figures with Amanda Ison, Lauren Leabhart, Richelle Bucklin, and Katie Mullens all scoring in double digits for the Cougars.
