Lady Cougars Put Out the Fire

(2/9/10) Clearwater, FL- The Clearwater Christian College women's basketball team defeated Southeastern University 83-76 in a key region matchup in their final home game on Tuesday night. The Lady Cougars again started strong, building a 15 point lead in the first half. They were successful in attacking the Southeastern pressure to get easy baskets in transition. The Fire was able to close the lead to 1 right before the half, but Amanda Ison hit a long 3 pointer at the buzzer to send the Cougars into half with a 37-33 lead.

The Cougars came out strong in the second half, again taking a double digit lead behind some hot shooting by Lauren Leabhart who scored 15 points, all in the 2nd half. Several times, Southeastern would make a run to get within striking distance of the lead, but each time the Cougars would respond with a run of their own to extend the lead. The Cougars made several key plays late in the game to escape with a great team win.

The Cougars were led by Amanda Ison who had 18 points and 7 rebounds and Richelle Bucklin with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Lauren Leabhart added 15 points and Katie Mullens added 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.

With the win, the Cougars improve their region record to 2-3 before going on a 4 game road trip to close out the season. The Lady Cougars will be in action again on Friday at Pensacola Christian College at 7 p.m. CST.
