Cougars Drop Opener to Fire

(2/3/10) Lakeland, FL- The Cougar Baseball team traveled to Lakeland to play Southeastern University on Tuesday, losing 11-2 in their season opener. The Cougars played well early and were up 2-1 in the third inning with the possibility of adding to the lead with the bases loaded and nobody out. Southeastern was able to avoid a big inning by coming up with key double play.

Starter Brent Kirkley had a great start and pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing only one run. Team Captains James Wolstenholme and Philip Roscoe added hits, and freshmen Albert Ulloa, Gaby Suarez and Ryan McDonald each had their first college career hits. Senior Luis Ramos and freshman Josh Williams pitched well in relief.
