Cougars Escape With Win Over Trinity Baptist

(1/22/10) Clearwater, FL- Clearwater Christian College escaped with a 67-65 win over Trinity Baptist College on Friday night. The Cougars came into the game ripe for an upset as it was their fifth game in eight days including several emotionally draining games.

The Cougars came out strong in the first half, playing great defense and running the floor to start the game on an 11-0 run. But the Eagles hung around and kept the game close as the Cougars went into the half up 36-26.

The Cougars built their lead to 16 in the second half but Trinity would not go away. Trinity used scrappy play and timely shooting to claw all the way back and tie the game at 65 with a minute to go. With 30 seconds to go, George Youstra scored on a putback to put the Cougars up by the final margin of 67-65. In the final seconds, the Cougar defense came through as Trinity went for the win, forcing a 3 pointer that was long as time expired.

George Youstra led the Cougars with 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Bryan Spears added 8 points and 12 rebounds. The Cougars will play Southeastern University at home on Tuesday, January 26 at 7 p.m.
