Cougars Look To Upset Southeastern

(12/1/09) Clearwater, FL- The Cougars faced off against #4 ranked regional rival Southeastern on December 1 in Lakeland. CCC came out playing strong against a dominant Southeastern team, who owned a 16 game win streak against Clearwater and took an early lead. This lead was built on some key shooting and some strong defense, especially from sophomore transfer Matt Wells who had a huge block early in the game to pump up the Cougars and the visiting crowd. The SEU Fire came back with some dominant inside play by Nate Marshall, who scored 21 in the game, and a few three pointers by Marlon Austin. Clearwater went into the half trailing 39-30.

The Cougars did not back down and brought the game back to a 44-44 tie in the second half. However, Southeastern pulled away late in the game with some tough press defense and strong free throw shooting.

Lonzo Saunders led the Cougars with 22 points, and was followed by Bryan Copeland with 12, and Troy Hadlock with 11.
