Cougars Travel to Atlanta for Match Against Atlanta Christian
(10/21/09) Atlanta, GA- The Cougars traveled to Atlanta, Georgia this weekend for 3 matches against some very tough opponents. First up was the match against Atlanta Christian College. Clearwater came out on the attack which worked to their advantage as ACC’s game plan was to sit back and counter attack. The Cougars were without goalie Anthony Derosse, who injured his leg in the last game, and Jarrod Bergey stepped in and rose to the occasion with a great performance.
Clearwater scored the first goal of the game off a corner when Drew Custer blasted the shot by the Atlanta keeper after Danny Post knocked the ball down off the cross from Adam Stallings. This gave Clearwater a 1-0 lead and the momentum. Both teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the half and went into halftime with a score of 1-0. 15 minutes into the second half Juan Robayo played a corner across to Tyler Spraul who calmly headed it past the keeper to put the Cougars up 2-0. CCC finished off the game when Adam Stallings hit a right foot blast a shot from 18 yards out into the upper right corner off an assist by Daniel Mauro.
After the game Coach Whitaker had this to say, “We played well today, controlling the run of play and creating a number of quality opportunities. Our defense again played well.”
