Lady Cougars Fight Hard Against Covenant

(10/17/09) Clearwater,FL-Today was a rematch of CCC and Covenant College from Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Yesterday the Cougars took three easy sets from the Scotts but today was different. Covenant College came to play hard and challenge the Cougars. Covenant came out big with some outstanding quick sets, and determined defense.

In game one, they rallied from behind and took the set 25-23. Clearwater came back the second set with some solid blocking and tied the match with a 25-12 win. Game three again went into overtime and again the Clearwater squad could not put them away and eventually lost 28-26. Game four went CCC's way with a score of 25-18. The Cougars could not continue the momentum and dropped game five 15-18.

According to Coach Denny "I told our team that Covenant would come out a different team today, and they proved me correct. They are well coached and have some solid players. In the two close sets, we were not able to finish in either one, and had them game point but could not put them away. Covenant played some outstanding defense, and I felt like they just out hustled us today. These are the type of matches we need in order to be ready for the end of our season. It was a tough loss, but hopefully we will learn and grow from it."

The Cougars were led in offense again from Emma Kile with 4.8 kills and Alyssa Hallice with 4.6. Defensively Chrissie Sugimoto had five digs per game and Ashley Lawson had 4.5 digs per game. Setter Liz Ennis had 12.2 sets per game.
