Cougars Continue Winning Ways Against Toccoa Falls

(10/3/09) Clearwater, FL- Toccoa Falls College traveled to Clearwater for a regional match against the Cougars.

The first half of this game was dominated by Clearwater’s offense play and attempts to score first. However, a combination of Toccoa Falls defense and the Cougars struggling to put the ball in the net sent this game to the second half scoreless.

Toccoa Falls scored two goals in a matter of 5 minutes in the second half, scored by David Eckman, and Tyler Timberlake, which gave them a 2-0 lead. With 25 minutes left to play, Toccoa Falls’ Dustin Howell picked up his 2nd yellow card (and subsequent red) which forced them to play a man down for the remainder of the game. Bill Carlton and the Cougars offense seized this opportunity as he scored from in close to cut the lead to 1 goal with 20 minutes remaining. As the clock read 12 minutes to go, Drew Custer beat a Toccoa Falls defender and hit a laser shot which bounced off the post and set Tyler Spraul up to make a diving header to tie the game and send it to overtime. With about 4 minutes to go in the first overtime, Juan Robayo beat his defender and crossed the ball, setting up Tyler Spraul with the opportunity to score the game winning goal on his second diving header of the game. The Cougars defense held Toccoa Falls to a minimum number of shots and the final count on shot was in Clearwater’s favor 18-5.

Coach Whitaker had this to say, “Early in the match, we again struggled to score as Toccoa played well defensively. I was thrilled with the way our guys responded after going down in the match. I was excited for Tyler to get the game-tying score and then the game winner both on diving headers. He’s playing very well for us in the midfield.”

The Cougars will be in action again on Saturday, October 10, against Emmanuel College at Glen Oaks Park.
