Cougars Fight Strong, Finish in a Tie

(9/9/2009) Clearwater, FL - The Cougars hosted Florida Memorial College on Tuesday, September 8, at Glen Oaks Park. This was a highly anticipated match against a very strong NAIA opponent.

Late in the first half, Carl Lassegue and Mike Altimus almost capitalized on a great opportunity to score but narrowly missed what would have been the only goal of the game. The offense used set plays and counterattacks to generate scoring chances but the FMU defense managed to stop them. As regulation was coming to an end, Juan Robayo and Drew Custer had a beautiful play but another great stop by Florida Memorial kept the Cougars scoreless.

As the clock ticked towards the end of regulation, Florida Memorial went on the attack but again the Cougars defense came up with clutch plays to send the match into overtime. The two defenses continued to play strong in overtime and the game ended in a tie. Coach Whitaker said, "Im really proud of the way our guys fought tonight against a very skillful FMU team. Our defense is really covering for each other playing well together."
