Soccer Team Defeats Florida College in Home Opener
(9/2/2009) Clearwater, FL - The Cougars faced off against the Florida College Falcons in their home opener at Glen Oaks Park on Tuesday.
Coach Whitaker's offense came out on the attack, with Drew Custer scoring the first of his two goals within the first 2 minutes of the game. Juan Robayo and Tyler Spraul added an assist each in an impressive display of teamwork. The Cougar offense continued their aggressive play but struggled to take advantage of the additional opportunities they had as the game went on. The defense also played a key part in shutting out the Falcons due, in large part, to the play of freshman goalie, Anthony Derosse.
Coach Whitaker said, "This was a good start to our season. I thought our defense played well earning the shutout. We worked hard to create a lot of scoring opportunities, but struggled in the final third to finish. This was a good tune up for our important region matchup on Thursday against Southeastern."
Make sure you come out to Glen Oaks Park, Thursday, September 3 at 6:30 p.m. to cheer on the Cougars as they face off against their rival Southeastern Flames.
