Cougar Soccer Team Faces St. Leo in Scrimmage Match

(9/1/2009) Saint Leo, FL - The Cougar Soccer team traveled to St. Leo University for a scrimmage matchup. The Cougars recognized that this would be a tough game, since St. Leo is a NCAA D-2 school.

Coach Whitaker's game plan was to stay organized on defense but to strike when the moment was right. The Cougars were on the attack early in the game and had a couple of scoring opportunities but couldn't capitalize on them. In the end St. Leo's speed and quality on the ball led to a 7-0 victory over the Cougars.

After the game, Coach Whitaker stated, “This scrimmage was a good learning experience for our team, and we’ll take from this some things that should help us as we get into our regular schedule. Although we had a good preseason, we weren’t prepared for the defensive pressure and also the speed with which St. Leo attacked us. The boys fought hard, but in the end we made too many mistakes to be successful against a team of St. Leo’s quality.”

Next on the slate for the Cougars is the home opener against Florida College at Glen Oaks Park, September 1 at 6:30 p.m.
