CCC Welcomes Men's Basketball Coach Keith Champion

Clearwater Christian College is pleased to welcome Keith Champion as the new assistant athletic director and men’s basketball coach. Coach Champion will be an excellent addition to the athletic department and will help Athletic Director James Whitaker maintain the spiritual compass of the sports teams.

Prior to coming to CCC, Coach Champion served at a number of different educational institutions including Pensacola Christian College, Gilead Christian Academy, Tabernacle Christian School, and Pillsbury Baptist Bible College. A graduate of Western Michigan University, he was named NCCAA Region Coach of the Year in 2000 and holds NIAC team championship records.

Coach Champion holds a B.S. and a M.A. in Physical Education from WMU and enjoys camping, canoeing, biking, golfing, and being with his family. His favorite verse is Psalm 34:8, “O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusteth in Him.” Together with his wife, Judy, Coach Champion has over 30 years of experience in Christian education. They have four sons and two daughters, all grown.

In addition to regular coaching, Coach Champion has conducted over 60 basketball camps in 15 states, has written a weekly column for a Minnesota newspaper, has appeared as a speaker at numerous school conventions, churches, chapels, and banquets, has been on several athletic mission trips, and remains active in his local church ministry.

Coach Champion has several goals for his new position at CCC: “to turn out athletes from CCC that have a passion to serve the Lord with the talents He has given them; to have the Cougar athletes be role models on campus, at their churches, and in their home communities; to have athletes play with fervor and enthusiasm and to display these same traits in their Christian walks; and, to have players known for their hard work, self-discipline, and testimony. If we take that approach, the wins and losses will take care of themselves.”

Above all, Coach Champion desires to make a difference in lives for “tomorrow.” “If we rest on what we accomplished yesterday, we will not be worth anything for the Lord today.” CCC, the athletic department, and the men’s basketball team will reap the benefits of a Coach with tomorrow in view. In addition to his role in the CCC athletic department, Mr. Champion will teach in the ESS Department and provide assistance in the Student Life Office with the intramural program.

Welcome to Clearwater, Coach Champion!
