Titans Win 3rd Annual Cross-Town Showdown

Clearwater squared off with St. Petersburg College on Saturday afternoon at Jack Russell Stadium for the 3rd Annual Mayor's Cup. After the first two years saw pitching duels, the Titans changed the tone this year by plating runs in seven of their eight offensive frames.

The Titans entered the game 26-17 and winners of their last three while Clearwater entered 13-25 carrying a six game skid.

SPC pounded out twelve extra base hits including a home run off the bat of third baseman Tyler Atwell in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs and giving the Titans a 3-0 lead.

The maroon and black answered back with three runs in the top of the second inning to tie the game 3-3. In the inning, freshmen Austin Yeoman and Gabe Gali collected an RBI each. After that offensive attack from the Cougars, the Titans went on to score twenty unanswered runs until senior Joel Felten hit an RBI double in the top of the eighth inning to make it 23-4.

St. Pete added one more in their half of the eighth inning to make it 24-4, the final score, as CCC didn't push any runs across in the ninth.

Felten, Yeoman, and freshman Trevor Lancaster each collected two hits a piece for Clearwater. Junior Will Kirby (4-5) took the loss for Clearwater after exiting the game in the third inning with the Cougars trailing.

The Titans are winners of the 3rd Annual Mayor's Cup. Clearwater drops to 13-26 and SPC is now 27-17. Clearwater has a full week until they will be back in action. They will play against NCCAA South Region opponent Johnson University-Florida next Saturday, April 26, with a doubleheader scheduled for 12:00pm. The games will be played at St. Cloud High School. Clearwater currently leads the season series with the Suns 2-1 and will look to clinch the series next week.
