Royals Two Big Innings Enough to Overtake Cougars
The maroon and black traveled to Lake Wales on Tuesday afternoon against Warner University. After losing a 5-4 contest back in February in Clearwater, the Cougars were in hopes of splitting the season series and snapping their three game skid.
The Royals jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning after collecting four hits and walking three times. They tacked on two more in the third before Clearwater could get a run across.
The lone run for CCC came in the top of the fourth after freshman Matt Schaefer knocked in senior Jefte Velez on a sacrifice fly in the inning. The Cougars only collected three base hits in the game.
Warner put another crooked number up on the board in the fifth inning, scoring five more times, giving them more insurance runs and taking a 13-1 lead. They added one more in the sixth, concluding the scoring in the 14-1 loss for the Cougars.
The Cougars skid increases to four games and drops their record to 13-23. The Royals are now 20-26-2 and have won two in a row.
CCC is set for a 6:00pm start at Eckerd College on Thursday evening. The game is a rescheduled date from last Tuesday, April 8 when the contest was cancelled due to rain. The Cougars have just five games remaining on their regular season schedule before the NCCAA South Regional tournament.
NOTES: Royals take the season series 2-0...Cougars are in action with three nine-inning games on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
