Cougars Recognized for D2 Basketball
Players from both the menís and womenís basketball teams were recognized by the NCCAA for their regional performance during the 2013 season. Five members of the menís basketball team were honored at the NCCAA South Region banquet held February 26 at Johnson University in Kissimmee, Florida. Junior guard Mike Key was voted to the First Team All-Region. Mike ranked in the top 5 for the nation in scoring, averaging 23.5 points per game. Twice during the season, he scored 45 points in a single game. He was also team leader in steals with 52 and second in assists and rebounds.
Freshman Eddie Moralobo was voted to the All-Freshman Team. Eddie led all freshmen in the region with his 3.3 assists per game and was third in highest points per game with 8.2. Eddieís three point average of 45% was the best among this yearís team and third highest in the region.
Seniors Erik McRae, Colin DeHate, and Devin Paularinne were selected as All-Region Honorable Mention. McRae played point guard for the Cougars and led the region in assists with 5.8 per game, placing him in the top five for the nation. He also averaged 11.5 points per game, second highest for the team. Forward Colin DeHate was noted for his rebounding abilities, averaging 6 rebounds per game, placing him in the top 10. Forward Devin Paularinne had a field goal percentage of 55.4%, placing him second in the region and in the top 15 for the nation.
On the girlís side, three Lady Cougars were named to the All-Region team for the NCCAA II South Region on February 28 in conjunction with their regional tournament held at Toccoa Falls College. Senior Tori Hale and freshman Hallie Linville were both name to First Team All-Region. Tori led the Cougars this year averaging per game 13.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 3.1 assists. Hallie led CCC scores with a record 15.6 points per game and holds the regionís record for free-throw percentage at 88.3%. Freshman Hanna Glaze was named to the Honorable mention team. Hanna averaged 7.8 points per game along with 4.9 rebounds.
