Tigers Pitching Shuts Out Cougars On The Road
Clearwater traveled to historical J.P. Small Memorial Field in Jacksonville, Florida for a midweek contest against Edward Waters College. Wednesday night's game was the first game since March 15th for the Cougars. The maroon and black only collected two hits and couldn't push any runs across in the 5-0 loss.
The Tigers plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. CCC had an opportunity to rally back in the top of the third, but left the bases loaded.
After doubling their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning, EWC scored their fifth and final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch. The Cougars were issued six free passes in the contest, but the Tigers starting pitcher Nigel Lewis faced the minimum in five of the nine innings, and didn't allow a run. Lewis struck out four in his complete game shut out.
Clearwater used six different pitchers. Senior Kyle Baitz, sophomore Stephen Martin, and sophomore Emmanuel Chmielewski each threw scoreless innings. Senior Kyle Leja (2-4) took the loss.
Clearwater drops to 9-16 with the loss and Edward Waters College improves to 17-17 overall.
The Cougars will be back in action this weekend with a three game series against Tennessee Temple University. The first pitch of the weekend is scheduled for 7:00pm on Friday night at Jack Russell Stadium.
