TFC Sweeps Cougars in Doubleheader After Taking Game Two 4-0

In game two of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, the Cougars were blanked again, only collecting three hits.

TFC's starting pitcher Justin Key threw a complete game shutout, yielding three hits, issuing one free pass, and striking out six.

Clearwater didn't have more than one runner on base at any time during the game, and were retired in order in four of the seven offensive frames. Freshman Nathan Stanley went 2-2 with a pair of singles and swiped two bags. Freshman Austin Yeoman has now singled in eight of the last nine games, finishing 1-3 with a single in game two.

Senior Kyle Leja (2-3) got off to a hot start on the mound, retiring five of the first six outs on strikes. After allowing three runs in the third inning, he settled in and allowed only one more run over the last four innings. Leja completed seven innings, gave up nine hits, allowed four earned runs, walked four, and struck out seven.

The 4-0 loss drops CCC to 9-15 overall. TFC improves to 14-10 on the year. The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon at Florida Memorial University with the first pitch slated for 3:00pm. Tuesday's game will be the last game before a break in the schedule for spring break.

NOTES: With Stanley's two stolen bases, now three Cougars have stolen double digit bases so far (Felten-13, Edwards-11, Stanley-11) totaling fifty-five on the season as a team...two of the four games this week included complete games by starting pitching for the game the Cougars will be at home is on Friday, March 28th against Tennessee Temple University.
