St. Francis Cruises Past Clearwater 11-3

St. Francis University (IN) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and held the advantage for the whole game, eventually pulling out a 11-3 victory and dropping Clearwater to 9-13 overall.

In the top of the first, St. Francis plated their first run on an RBI single from designated hitter Kyle McKay scoring center fielder David Yoder. Third baseman Zach Vanlandingham hit an RBI double in the third inning that scored shortstop Edie Bonner, who was walked to lead off the frame. Left fielder Kansas Varner collected an RBI single of his own in the top of the fourth, extending SFU's lead to 3-0.

Sophomore Emmanuel Chmielewski singled in the bottom of the fourth for the Cougars and eventually scored on a wild pitch, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

St. Francis plated three more runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth, quickly making it a 10-1 game. Clearwater scored one run in the sixth on an RBI single from freshman Nick Abbruzzese and then again in the eighth after freshman Justin Holmes scored on a passed ball.

Junior Will Kirby (2-3) lasted five innings, giving up six runs, five earned, yielding seven hits, walking two, and retiring four on strikes.

Holmes went 3-3, scored one run, and reached base four times. Tim Reidy and Abbruzzese each tallied two hits. Holmes, Abbruzzese, and freshman Nathan Stanley collectively reached base in ten of their combined twelve plate appearances in the bottom third of the Cougars lineup.

Vanlandingham led St. Francis going 3-4 with two doubles and four RBI's.

Clearwater (9-13) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 1:00pm against Toccoa Falls College at Frank Tack Park. St. Francis University has now won their third game in a row and hold a 4-13 record.

NOTES: Felten's hitting streak extends to eleven games...Yeoman tallied a hit for the eighth straight game...Clearwater is now 2-2 on Friday night's at home.
